Golden Temple

History

The Harmandir Sahib, universally known as the Golden Temple, was completed in 1604 by Guru Arjan Dev as a place of worship open to every faith — built low so all enter on equal footing. The shrine is gilded with more than 750 kilograms of gold and surrounded by the sacred pool from which the city takes its name. Its free langar kitchen serves meals to over 100,000 people daily.
