Udaipur

Udaipur was founded in 1559 by Maharana Udai Singh II around the artificial Lake Pichola, and the city grew into the most refined of Rajasthan's princely states. The City Palace, a complex of eleven palatial wings, towers over the lake, while the Lake Palace appears to float on the water. The old town is a maze of markets, rooftop cafes, and havelis, with the hills of Aravalli rolling in every direction.
