History
Built in 1799 by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh, the Hawa Mahal allowed royal women to observe street life through its latticed windows without being seen — in keeping with purdah tradition. Its five-story pink sandstone facade is Jaipur’s most photographed landmark.
