History
India Gate was built between 1921 and 1931 to commemorate the 90,000 soldiers of the British Indian Army who died in the First World War and the Third Anglo-Afghan War. Designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens, the arch now anchors a vast, popular evening esplanade where families picnic, children fly kites, and the Amar Jawan Jyoti flame remembers the fallen.
