Agra exists for one building, and it does not disappoint. The Taj Mahal is best visited at sunrise, when the marble shifts from grey to pink to gold and the crowds are thinnest. Agra Fort, a short drive away, gives the same view from the emperor’s own balcony — where Shah Jahan spent his final years gazing at the tomb he built.
