History
The Vittala Temple, built in the 15th century during the Vijayanagara Empire, is the most elaborate monument in Hampi, a UNESCO site. Its stone chariot in the courtyard — a miniature of the Sun God's vehicle — is the most photographed image in Karnataka, while the 56 pillars of the Ranga Mantapa are famed for producing musical notes when struck. The temple was never finished.
