History
The Shore Temple at Mahabalipuram, built around 700 CE under the Pallava king Narasimhavarman II, is the oldest stone temple in South India and a UNESCO site. Perched on the Coromandel coast, its twin shrines to Shiva and one to Vishnu were once part of a seven-temple complex, most of which now lies beneath the sea. It is at its finest at sunrise over the Bay of Bengal.
