History
Ranthambore Fort, built in 944 CE by the Chauhan dynasty and later fortified by successive Rajput and Mughal rulers, sits on a rocky outcrop at the centre of the national park. It was a strategic prize for centuries — captured by Ala-ud-din Khilji in 1301 — and today its temples and ramparts offer one of the most atmospheric spots in the park, often glimpsed during safari routes.
