Mysore Palace

History

The Mysore Palace (Amba Vilas), the residence of the Wodeyar dynasty, was rebuilt in Indo-Saracenic style in 1912 after a fire destroyed the original. Its domes, arches, and exquisite interiors combine Hindu, Muslim, Rajput, and Gothic influences, and on Sundays and festival nights it is illuminated by nearly 100,000 bulbs. The Dasara celebrations held here are among the grandest in India.
