Mattancherry Palace

History

The Mattancherry Palace, built by the Portuguese in 1555 as a gift to the Raja of Kochi and later renovated by the Dutch, houses one of India's finest mural galleries. Its chambers are covered in 17th-century Ramayana paintings, and it holds coronation regalia, palanquins, and royal furniture. It is a compact, elegant pause from the bustle of Fort Kochi.
