History

Unlike Rajasthan's hill forts, Junagarh stands on the flat desert, built between 1589 and 1594 by Raja Rai Singh of Bikaner and never captured in battle. Its ornate palaces — Anup Mahal, Ganga Mahal, and Chandra Mahal — display dazzling mirror work, murals, and carved red sandstone, while the fort's museum holds one of the best collections of Rajput weaponry in the region.
