History
Built in 1734 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, the Jantar Mantar is the largest of five astronomical observatories he constructed across India. Its 19 monumental instruments — sundials, equatorial and zodiacal tools — were used to measure time, track stars, and predict eclipses with remarkable precision for their age. The Samrat Yantra, the world's largest sundial, stands 27 metres high.
