History
The Jaisalmer Fort, founded in 1156 by Rawal Jaisal, is one of the only "living forts" in the world — thousands of people still live, trade, and worship inside its walls. Built of the same honey-coloured sandstone as the desert, it contains a royal palace, Jain temples with exquisite carvings, and shops and homes squeezed into its maze of lanes. It glows amber at sunset.
