Leh-Ladakh

Leh is the capital of Ladakh, a high-altitude desert wedged between the Himalayas and the Karakoram. Its 17th-century palace, the hilltop Thiksey and Hemis monasteries, and the dramatic two-day drive to the changing colours of Pangong Lake make it a once-in-a-lifetime destination. The Khardung La and Chang La passes climb above 5,000 metres, demanding acclimatisation before any long excursion.
